The Importance Of Your Dream

Few people realize the importance of their dream. They often let it go or fail to pursue it to the end, especially when they meet with opposition. But it’s so important to realize that the dream you have is not really yours to do or not do. Rather it is an assignment from GOD to make a difference in the lives of those who will come to depend on what you have been given to do.

In the movie Longitude, Michael Gambon stars as John Harrison, a real-life 18th century clockmaker who was fascinated and inspired to solve the dilemma to determine Longitude while at sea.

During this period, Parliament, sent out a decree telling “any one who could to come up with a way to determine Longitude while at sea would be granted a huge fortune for a solution, a prize of £20,000 (about £2.77 million / €3.52 million / $4.56 million today).”

John Harrison had a deep belief in GOD and as a result received some very unique insights that birthed the invention of a “marine chronometer” that would not be effected by the movement of the ocean, nor the change in the magnetic influence on time as ones position in the earth changes. It would ultimately serve as the primary navigational guide for sailors of his era — but not without a lot of sacrifice and frustration on Harrison’s part. Harrison painstakingly assembled his chronometer and then set about and attempted to promote the device to the unresponsive powers-that-be.

There were hundreds of quacks presenting ideas of all kinds from cutting and bleeding dogs, to running a series of buoys across the ocean. Each was more ridiculous than the previous. But Harrison’s Idea was both sound and simple. However making his idea work required funding, as most great ideas do, and this is where his problems and challenges began to eat away at his passion and sap his energy to continue pressing on.

He first had to convince three different groups of his idea. The organization that was used to first evaluate ideas, the Navy and then the purse holders, Parliment. Of course it was the third group, Parliament, that created the most opposition as it was they who were holding tightly to the purse strings.

Rooted in pride, arrogance and control they called his idea blasphemous and ridiculed him. However with the help of the Navy, and some political weight behind him, he eventually convinced them to fund the dream. This was not the end of his opposition but rather just the beginning.

While the story is long it is worth watching on film. The most powerful scene in my opinion, and the point of this post, is when Harrison gives up. In this scene he has retired to his shop and is beginning to question his attempts. While tinkering away in the shop he is visited by one of the old navel crew who was on board John’s original test. He’s now an officer and comes to help John. In this scene the officer shares with John his near death experience as his entire crew died due to starvation and heat exhaustion because they could not find land while lost at sea. He recalls how in his early encounter with John when he was a crew hand testing John’s clock for the first time and he tells John,” If we had your device my men would be alive today!” The look in Harrison eyes is unforgettable as he commits to the cause once again.

What is important for you to take away is that your idea, your dream, that thing you keep thinking about that you can’t get rid of, is important to the world. Truly it is! No matter how small or how big you must do everything you can now, and as the challenges present themselves, and never give up because there are people who are depending on your dream.

So no matter how tough the economy may be, or how difficult the circumstance are you must step out to make the dream a reality and persevere to see it come to pass otherwise you will forever be restless with that deep belief that something bigger exists and you can’t put your finger on it. You’ll be plagued with that void that stirs when you sit too long doing nothing. You’ll find yourself trying to drown out the feeling in senseless activity that leaves you feeling empty and worthless.

Realize that you have a divine call on your life and the GOD of the universe is pleading with you to come up higher.

Remember you were created for such a time as this. You have a special purpose that only you can fulfill. It’s that dream in your heart and only when you step out by first seeking an intimate relationship with the Creator, and secondly engaging in a passionate pursuit of your purpose will you find fulfillment and discover all your answers for your struggles. It is only then will you experience joy unspeakable.

Shift Happens - Global Shift Feed Back

As you know we are working on putting on an event here in April and some feed back has come that is suggesting to push the event to a later date in and so I wanted to ask you what date would work best if you can make it.
